Neuschwanstein was never really completed. King Ludwig was killed (possibly assassinated for his extravagances) before he could occupy it.
Linderhof Castle was used by Ludwig as a vacation cottage. The rooms were very elaborate and covered with gold. When he wanted to eat alone, a table was set on a floor below the dining room and raised.
