Amazon Adventure

On Monkey Island with monkeys rescued when man's intrusion destroyed their habitat.

One of the suspension bridges on the canopy walk.

Catching piranhas for dinner. We placed small pieces of meat to catch them. Taking them off the hook was tricky - they bite back.

A pet boa constrictor. This family kept it to catch mice and other pests.

Dancing with the stars Amazon style.

A three toed sloth

This was my wife's companion when she went to the bathroom one night.

Macaws we met on the way to dinner. This trip was like being inside a zoo.

These two judged our "moves" while we were dancing with their parents

A baby cappibarra nibbled on my pant leg on the way to dinner.

On the way to lunch we fed the local animals (monkeys in this case)

This baby tapir was the kitchen pet at our camp.

A drum called us to dinner.

Our accommodations at Camp Explorama were first class! It even had "air conditioning". Both ends of the thatch roof were open to allow the jungle breeze (and anything else in the air) through our room.

The local wildlife stood at attention while we passed on our way to meals.

We had meetings with our guide to discuss each day's activities.

Many people live along the Amazon River

This boat took us up the Amazon.

Strangely we always felt like we were being watched.

Hear no evil, say no evil, see no evil.

The canopy walk was fantastic, but hang on. We were 200 ft. above the ground in some places.

Take a bow.

The flowers were wonderful.

The natives invited us to their village.

Bats! Bats! Bats!

At the end of this wooden path was...
...a place to rest!
