Animals of the Galapagos Islands

Land Crab

Land iguana eat cactus. Their faces are longer than that of sea iguanas.

The sea lions of the Galapagos had little fear of man. When we swam the young would nibble on our swim fins and play with us.

Sea Iguana of the Galapagos had shorter faces than the land iguanas. They had crusted salt on the front of their faces and would occasionally "snort" salt from their nostrils. They ate the algae that grew on the rocks near the shore line.

We were told to stay clear of the male sea lions because they were not as tolerant of humans as the females and young.
